The 17th annual World Porridge Making Championships takes place in the Scottish Highland village of Carrbridge on Sunday 10th October 2010. The competition is organised by Carrbridge Ahead supporting Carrbridge and Vicinity Community Council. The main sponsor is oatmeal producers, Hamlyns of Scotland.
Sunday October 10 is also World Porridge Day with porridge fans across the globe invited to join in this international celebration of Scotland’s traditional dish by organising a fund raising event in aid of Mary’s Meals – a Scottish based charity which daily feeds more than 400,000 of the poorest children across the world.Find out more, Click Here
2009 Winners
American Matthew Cox won the title of World Porridge Making Champion 2009 to take the prestigious Golden Spurtle trophy. Ian Bishop – the 2008 champion – made it to the final cook off but was beaten by the American from Bob’s Red Mill, Natural Foods, Oregon, USA. The Golden Spurtle Trophy was presented by Miss Scotland, Katharine Brown and the official Burns for Scotland’s Homecoming, Christopher Tait. Matthew kindly donated his winner’s prize money to Mary’s Meals.
