World Porridge Making Championship
The title of World Porridge Making Champion is awarded to the chef deemed to have made the best traditional porridge using oatmeal, water and salt. The annual championship is sponsored by Scotland’s leading oatmeal producers, Hamlyns of Scotland. As well as the coveted World Porridge Making Champion title, the winner will be presented with the prestigious Golden Spurtle trophy. There is also a cash prize of £250.

Speciality Porridge
Most contestants also enter the ‘Speciality Porridge’ competition, for porridge with other ingredients added. The winner will be presented with the Duncan Hilditch Quaich – so named in honour of the legendary four times World Porridge Making Champion, the late Duncan Hilditch. The winner of the Speciality Porridge, also sponsored by Hamlyns of Scotland, will receive a cash prize of £150.

Official Toast to the Porridge
The World Porridge Making Championship gets underway with all the competitors, judges and officials meeting at the Old Bridge for the pipe band led parade along the Main Street of Carrbridge to the Village Hall. The gathering is then invited to raise their glasses for the traditional Toast to the Porridge. The championship takes the form of three heats with the five porridge makers scoring the highest points invited to take part in the final cook off.

The Event
Other activities during the day include the annual Carrbridge Challenge 3km and 5km Forest Run, a minis fun run, local produce and craft stalls, product tasting, foodie workshops and demonstrations, live music and other entertainment.
